A bit over the top

I believe it is a bit over the top for the government to send BP an $75,000 nonitemized bill for a one-day visit to the New Orleans crisis center by VP Joe Biden, as reported in The Wall Street Journal on-line edition, July 21.
I like Biden and he is a nice guy, but what did he actually contribute to solving the crisis besides bringing himself up to speed, something he could have done with a video conference at a cheaper price. (Disclaimer: I support this administration and am a former BP stockholder.)
